March 3, 2010: Mark Frost spreads "Twin Peaks" "resolution" rumors?

As fanatical as the "Twin Peaks" cult continues to be, there have been surprisingly few over-wound rumors regarding a return to that dreamy land of out-of-this-world cherry pie, slain prom queens, and denim-wearing demons. In 2007 there was some talk of a graphic novel continuation, although show co-creator David Lynch put the kibosh on that scheme. Still, Peaks Freaks may not realize how close they came to finally finding out whether or not Audrey Horne and Pete Martell survived the bank explosion, whether or not Ben Horne survived his thrashing by Doc Hayward, and whether or not Agent Cooper ever found his way out of the Red Room. In a recent interview with Screenrush.com, Mark Frost, the cat most responsible for plotting "Twin Peaks", explained that he was involved in discussions about finally resolving the dangling mysteries left unanswered in both the "Twin Peaks" series and Lynch's feature-length Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me a couple of years ago (which essential-Lynch-site Dugpa.com suggests was inspired by the success of the Twin Peaks Gold Edition DVD box set). When asked, "Do you think we’ll ever see a resolution?" Frost responded, "Maybe so."

Mark Frost

OK, OK, OK. I completely realize that this is never going to happen, and that by relaying this tidbit I'm merely dribbling fuel on a dead flame. David Lynch has said that as much as he loves it, he's finished with "Twin Peaks", and Lynch seems to have final say over everything regarding the TV show he and Frost created. In the Screenrush.com interview, Frost follows his provocative "Maybe so" by saying discussions about a "Peaks" revival "became impractical from a story standpoint. I mean all the actors are 20 years older, it's a little harder to sell that Audrey is still in high school." However, the series suggests that Cooper remains in the Red Room for 25 years, so it would be quite practical from a story standpoint to pick up with "Twin Peaks" at that point. We could find out how (and if) Coop manages to escape that nightmarish netherworld. The only major problem with this trajectory is the fact that one of the series' most integral actors is dead: Frank Silva, who played the terrifying demon Killer BOB, died of AIDS-related complications 15 years ago.

Frank Silva as Killer BOB

So, basically, this post is a non-news news item. I still recommend you check out that Screenrush.com interview with Mark Frost, though. It's pretty damn interesting.
